Elsie Evans was born in a small fishing village in the north of Scotland in 1956. Against the advice of her family, she switched from studying pharmacy to taking art classes. In 1985, Elsie got married and the couple moved to Thailand for work where she raised their four boys, all while continuing her passion for art.
Then in April 2006, a terrible tragedy happened when Elsie's husband died during a diving accident. With four children to bring up on her own, Elsie decided to open Attic Studios in Bangkok where she would teach in the mornings and paint in the afternoons.
"I wanted to open a place where you can relax and do art in an atmosphere where creativity isn't forced after spending numerous hours and days in traffic, pollution and pressure."
After 10 years in Bangkok, Elsie sold Attic Studios and moved to Rayong to build her dream home and art retreat. Elsie Evans Art Retreat is a hidden gem for artists, travelers and families who want to experience the real Thailand.
